FAQ

What if I’m not creative or artistic?

I think Elizabeth Gilbert really hit the nail on the head when she said, “The guardians of high culture will try to convince you that the arts belong only to a chosen few, but they are wrong and they are also annoying. We are all the chosen few. We are all makers by design.” Art and art therapy are for everyone, whether you’ve been painting since you could hold a brush or you’ve never seen a pastel in your life!

Do I need to make art during sessions?

One of the core tenets of my work is meeting each individual person where they are, moment by moment. If you’re not interested in creating during our time together, that is more than okay! As both a psychotherapist and an art therapist, I am trained in talk-therapy and counselling skills as well.

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is the collaborative meeting place of art making, counselling, and psychotherapy. It is an evidence-based healing modality that is grounded in the belief that expressing ourselves through the creative process and supported reflection is good for our well-being and mental health.

Working with arts materials in session allows a means to express, process, integrate, and contain experiences that may be too big or overwhelming to put words to. It can also be useful in tapping into and expanding capacities for joy, connection, insight, and peace.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes! Drop me a line via email to discuss my sliding scale and student options, tailored specifically to you and your unique needs.

Where do you work?

Our in-person space is located in Centertown, between Bank St and Kent St, but I am able to work with clients across Ontario virtually. Outside of Ontario but still want to work together? I’m able to work in select provinces/territories virtually as well!

What are your credentials?

I hold a Master’s of Counselling Psychology – Art Therapy from Adler University in Vancouver, and am part of both the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Canadian Art Therapy Association.
